Celebrate the Future of Ag on August 10th, 2024 at 10:00 AM

Are you ready to experience the thrill of a youth livestock auction? At the Umatilla County Fair, we've been hosting these dynamic events since 1912.

The Youth Livestock Auction is one of the most important events at the Umatilla County Fair. We get to watch the next generation enter the world of livestock sales, where all of their hard work pays off and they start making money for college and next year's livestock projects.

Our young 4-H and FFA Ag students sell a variety of animals:

  • Hogs
  • Rabbits
  • Steers
  • Turkeys
  • Goats
  • Lambs

UCF Youth Livestock Auction Frequently Asked Questions

The Umatilla County Fair Youth Livestock Auction supports local 4-H and FFA livestock exhibitors by providing a platform for them to sell their market animals at 10:00 AM on the last day of the fair.

  • How do I get a bidder number?

    • Online participants will receive their bidder numbers via liveauctions.tv, once they register here.
    • In-person participants need to register at the Buyer Registration Table at 9:00 am on Sale Day. Buyer registration is located in the Burns Pavilion which is the middle and largest barn.
  • Where do we park to enter?

    • Buyers and spectators can park on the northeast end of the fairgrounds through the S. Ott Road entrance.
    • There are dirt spaces located close to the Sale Barn for those with mobility issues. Otherwise paved handicapped parking (placard required) is accessed through the MainFair entrance off of E. Airport Road.
  • Who runs the sale?

    • The Umatilla County Fair Sale Committee and the Umatilla County Fair Board make the auction happen. The Sale Committee runs the auction and is made up of volunteers who work all year long to put it together. Marie Linnell is the UCF Youth Livestock Auction Superintendent and UCF Board Director Micheal Hampton is the liaison to the Sale Committee.
    • To cover the expense for the implementation of the sale, a 4% commission is retained by the Sale Committee, from each animal sold. This is how they can keep the scales working, pay livestock judges & auctioneers, purchase supplies, and maintain equipment for the auction.
  • What are my options for buying or supporting?

    • In Person – Come to the Umatilla County Fair on Sat. Aug. 10th at 9:00 am to register for the auction and bid live! Enter through the livestock entrance off of S. Ott Rd. (northeast corner of fairgrounds).
    • Bid Online – register with www.liveauctions.tv  and bid online in real-time on sale day.
    • Proxy Bid – UCF will assign a Fair Board or Sale Committee member to bid live on your behalf
    • Add-On – add a designated amount to one or more specific exhibitors
    • Bump Program – Donations to this program are pooled with funds from other donors to “bump” the price/pound for youth exhibitors who leave the ring with a price that is below the average. The Bump program was started in the early 2000s.

In 2022, donations of over $62,000 from 48 businesses and/or individuals were pooled to "bump" the price per pound for youth exhibitors who leave the ring with a price that is below average. This year the Bump brought each species up to a record high base price with lambs at $14.69/lb, hogs at $12/lb, goats at $22.50/lb, steers at $4.58/lb, turkeys at $800 each and chickets to $890/pen!

We greatly appreciate the 295 businesses and individuals who supported this year's event whether they purchased an animal, added on to an exhibitor and/or supported the Bump program!

 Participating in the Auction

  • How do I sign up to bid online?

Go to www.liveauctions.tv, create an account, select our auction, and register for a bidder number. Livestockauctions.tv apps are available for both iPhone and Android so you can watch and bid from your phone.

  • What happens after I buy the animal?

Through the online chat screen, you will be asked if your animal is resale or custom. If you select custom, you will need to state your preferred custom processor from the list below.

  • Do I have to pay online?

hibu-tm

I had a good time putting things in the fair. Good display of 4H. Enjoyed walking thru to see all of the animals. Looks like the 4H and FFA kids were having a good time showing their animals. Lots of ribbons throughout. Then we really enjoyed the Farm City Pro rodeo on Saturday night. Not forgetting the good shaving ice.
